The MusicLink Foundation is a non-profit organization that links
promising students in need with professional music teachers who
volunteer
to teach on partial to full scholarship for as long as these
students wish to learn.
The MusicLink Foundation assists in the purchase and repair of
instruments,
moving costs for donated pianos, camp scholarships for our students, and
coordination and expansion of programs into new communities across the country.
Foundation
funding relies on contributions from the public, in-kind instrument donations from business
partners and grants.
The MusicLink Foundation has served over 7,600 students in all 50 states with teachers donating
over 564,000 hours of instruction,
equivalent to over $15.8 million of in-kind service to the
program.
After six successful years spreading the program throughout Virginia, MusicLink expanded
to the national level in 1998 through support
from the Music Teachers National Association Foundation.
In September, 2001, the program was restructured into the MusicLink Foundation, a 501(c)(3)
non-profit
organization, to provide more freedom to seek funding for the specific needs of the program and expand
possibilities beyond a single professional music organization.
Our first spotlight of the new year is shining on MusicLink student Brandon Chen, a freshman at David Douglas High School in Portland, Oregon. He began playing piano when he was eight and participated in group piano lesson for almost a year before his teacher recommended he take private lessons.
Patti Nyien has been a member of the Salt Creek Local Association of Music Teachers National Conference since 1987. She became Nationally Certified in 1992 and has been teaching in Westmont/Hinsdale, IL since 1980.
We are shining our alumni spotlight on Erika Roderick from Alexandria, Minnesota. This is the second time the spotlight has shone on Erika as she was in the student spotlight in May of 2016 while taking piano lessons at Diane Alveshere Studios.
